Jérôme Kélagopian

Picture Hunter

His favorite tool… his camera! His playground of choice, the sky. His favorite partner, Michel de Rohozinski.

"As a child, I was dyslexic, and images were a way for me to express myself." That has stayed true ever since. The amateur photographer became a true professional by the age of 30, with his photos appearing on magazine covers.

Jérôme Kélagopian's specialty? Boat photography.

In 1999, while working for Yachts Magazine, he met helicopter pilot Michel de Rohozinski. The professional partnership quickly blossomed into a strong friendship. The duo began regularly taking to the skies for shoots that only they could pull off, as Jérôme Kélagopian, official photographer for Azur Hélicoptère and later for Green Bees Helico, truly shows the full scope of his talent when working in tandem with Michel.

"Thanks to Michel’s skill and expertise, we developed a wide-angle photographic style." Exceptional shots like these require meticulous preparation, starting with a briefing with the boat pilot. Once in the air, communication is impossible. On board the R22 or R44, small helicopters that can fly backwards or sideways at 100km/h, each one has their role – though sometimes, "Michel spots images I don’t see and points them out to me."

"In a helicopter, Michel and I have done everything that can be done," says Jérôme Kélagopian. Jaded? Not at all! After shooting boats, he moved on to helicopters and planes. As the official photographer of the Cannes Yachting Festival, his enthusiasm and curiosity remain intact. Photography continues to be his truest form of expression…
